Until 31 December 2020, the partner of a woman who has just given birth is entitled to 10 working days’ parental leave. The partner’s employer pays for 3 of these days, as a short holiday, and 7 are paid for by the health insurance company.
As of 1 January 2021, parental leave will be increased to 15 working days. That means that the period is being extended to 3 weeks. The way in which it is taken will not change. The first 3 working days will be taken as a short holiday paid by the employer, followed by 12 working days at the expense of the health insurance company. The benefit paid is 82% of gross salary, with a limit of 3,779.83 euros.
The 15 working days can be taken at any time within 4 months of the date of the birth.
